Abteilungsbeschreibung / Description of UZH unit

Research of the Methods of Plasticity Lab aims to advance the understanding about neuronal plasticity, mechanisms for stabilization and compensation across the lifespan. We focus on the development of new neurophysiological and neuroimaging measures to assess changes in cognitive functioning, such as perceptual processing, learning, (working-) memory, decision-making and processing speed. In this context, we design and implement novel multi-modal experimental paradigms (e.g. combined EEG and eye-tracking), offering wealth of features that are analyzed with state of the art methods, including functional network models, machine learning, longitudinal analyses and computational cognitive modeling.

Aufgabenbereich / Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in our active, innovative, interdisciplinary research. She / he will be expected to oversee the acquisition and analysis of combined EEG and eye-tracking experiments, develop new analysis tools, prepare manuscripts for publication, and actively participate in conferences.

Anforderungen / Qualifications

The successful applicant should have a Master’s degree in a field related to cognitive neuroscience (e.g., cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, psychology, developmental psychology, medicine) and/or a background in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or computer science. The applicant must possess excellent verbal and written English communication skills and is expected to have a very strong research background in the design and analysis of neurophysiological experiments. Solid programming skills (MATLAB/ Python) are a must, experience with EEG analyses programs (e.g., EEGlab, brainstorm) are desirable and experience with Big Data, machine learning or connectivity analyses a plus.

Wir bieten / We offer

The Methods of Plasticity Lab at the University of Zurich (http://www.psychology.uzh.ch/en/chairs/plafor.html) invites applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD position to study neural mechanisms of cognitive aging. Approximate start date is spring / summer 2018. Successful applicants will be appointed at University of Zurich and have the opportunity to participate at the ZNZ International PhD Program in Neuroscience (http://www.neuroscience.uzh.ch/en/education.html), one of the leading neuroscience graduate schools in Europe.
