Abteilungsbeschreibung / Description of UZH unit

Service and Support for Science IT (S3IT) unit is part of the Information Technology department at the University of Zurich, with the ambitious goal of supporting research use of IT across the university. We provide services and infrastructure in cloud and high-performance computing, data management, and software development.

Aufgabenbereich / Responsibilities

You have a solid knowledge in Linux systems administration. You should enjoy working in a fast-paced scientific environment. You actively look for new challenges and you can solve them independently even under pressure. You are a good communicator and have the necessary organizational skills to work in a dynamic team that bridges R&D and reliable operation of crucial services. Your tasks:
- As part of a team, you will be responsible for the daily operations of an OpenStack installation with more than 10,000 vcores, including upgrades, performance tuning, monitoring and administration.
- Daily operations of a hybrid High Performance Computing infrastructure consisting of GPU accelerated nodes, large memory nodes and regular high-throughput computing nodes.

Anforderungen / Qualifications

- Linux systems administration in general and Ubuntu specifically
- Knowledge of networking, including Ethernet, routine, VLANs, DNS and DHCP
- Scripting and automation using technologies such as, for example, Bash or Ansible
- Version control such as git, mercurial or subversion
Knowledge in any of the following areas is considered an asset:
- Advanced networking such as RDMA and Infiniband
- OpenStack architecture, configuration, deployment and administration
- Batch queuing systems; specifically slurm
- Python programming
- Experience liaising with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
