Service and Support for Science IT (S3IT) unit is part of the Information Technology department at the University of Zurich, with the ambitious goal of supporting research use of IT across the university. We provide services and infrastructure in cloud and high-performance computing, data management, and software development. We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior OpenStack & HPC Specialist to enhance our team. The person in this position will have a key role in establishing and operating a cutting edge IT infrastructure for research.

Aufgabenbereich / Responsibilities

You have a solid knowledge in Linux systems administration of large distributed cloud infrastructure and high-performance computing systems. You should enjoy working in a fast-paced scientific environment. You actively look for new challenges and you can solve them independently even under pressure. You are a good communicator and have the necessary organizational skills to work in a dynamic team that bridges R&D and reliable operation of crucial services. Your tasks:
- You will be responsible, as part of a team, for the daily operations of an OpenStack installation with more than 10,000 vcores, including upgrade and deployment planning, performance tuning, monitoring and administration.
- Daily operations of a hybrid High Performance Computing infrastructure consisting of GPU accelerated nodes, large memory nodes and regular high-throughput computing nodes.

Anforderungen / Qualifications

- Linux systems administration in general and Ubuntu specifically.
- Expert knowledge of advanced networking, including Ethernet, routing, VLANs, DHCP, TCP/IP, RDMA and Infiniband.
- Scripting and automation using technologies such as Bash and Ansible.
- Version control systems; specifically git.
- OpenStack architecture, configuration, deployment and administration.
- Batch queuing systems; specifically slurm.
- Python programming
- Experience liaising with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
